The Far Side was created in 1979 and made its newspaper debut on January 1, 1980, but the comic strip didn’t find an audience right away. In 1981, The Far Side was only published in a handful of papers, and most of the world wasn’t familiar with Gary Larson’s signature brand of weird and wacky humor.
