Even growing up, religiously rereading my collections of The Far Side, I still did not get some of the humor because it was ‘dated.’ I also benefited from grandparents and parents who embraced many old adages and sayings for amusement; I myself still carry this passion for antiquated sayings. Now, a couple of decades on, I am more aware of how many of Larson’s comics are products of their time, and when we consider the future under our AI overlords, where everything is provided by the government, and we spend all our days working in the space mines (I probably watched too much Black Mirror), his humor will land even less.
