In Calvin and Hobbes, one of the greatest persisting mysteries is whether Hobbes truly exists or if he’s a mere figment of Calvin’s imagination. Creator Bill Watterson established in the past that Hobbes’ existence is up to interpretation by the reader, though he personally believed that Hobbes was not imaginary. Moreover, the comics themselves insinuated that Calvin’s imaginary friend was more real than most would initially assume for one key reason.
