Canada’s highest-earning families are paying nearly two-thirds of the country’s personal income taxes while earning less than half of its income, according to a new Fraser Institute report—and the burden has grown substantially since last year.
“So much of the discussion when it comes to share of taxes, or what constitutes a fair share of taxes, is almost never rooted in facts or data,” Jake Fuss, director of fiscal studies for the Fraser Institute and co-author of the report, told The Hub in a phone interview. “This is mainly to provide a starting point to actually get the discussion going about what constitutes a fair share.”
