BIG: A CNN investigation shows China has dramatically increased construction at more than 60% of 136 facilities tied to missile production and the PLA Rocket Force since 2020, adding over 21 million sq ft of new buildings.

The buildup includes new bunkers, testing centers, and structures consistent with weapons development; missile components are visible at some sites.

The production increase accelerated after Russia invaded Ukraine, with Beijing reportedly preparing for the high missile demands of modern war.

China is also rapidly growing its nuclear arsenal—adding about 100 warheads annually, though still far behind the U.S. and Russia
