The FAO Food Price Index rose for a third consecutive month in September 2026 (+1.5% month-over-month), reaching its highest level since November 2022 and up 5.8% compared to September 2025.
Increases are driven by elevated fuel/diesel costs, higher fertilizer and raw material prices (partly due to trade tariffs), shrinking agricultural labor pools driving up wages, extreme weather events, and multi-year supply chain disruptions.
