The Fed Is Moving Historically Fast to Tame Inflation

Coming off historically low interest rates in the wake of the pandemic, the Fed has taken very aggressive action to tame inflation in the past 14 months, raising the federal funds target rate by 500 basis points since March 2022. As the following chart shows, this tightening cycle has been the fastest in four decades.
