A proposed copper smelter in B.C. is drawing mixed views from industry experts, with one former mining executive warning it may not be economically viable while others disagree.
In late 2025, the federal and B.C. governments announced they were examining the feasibility of a copper smelter and refinery on the West Coast, aiming to move up the value chain and reduce reliance on overseas processing.
