Canada has fallen behind much of the developed world. RBC Capital Markets notes that Canada has gone from being the sixth most-productive economy in the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development in 1970 to the 18th as of 2022. The lender also points out that businesses in Canada invest about half as much per worker as those in the US, a trend that has only become worse since the 2008-09 global financial crisis.
