President Joe Biden has compiled, over the past four years, an impressive record of diplomatic about-faces.
Saudi Arabia was originally a “pariah”; now it may become a treaty ally. Biden pledged to end endless wars; now he wages one against the Houthis. Biden initially sought détente with Russia and Iran to focus on China; now, he seeks stability with Beijing amid ongoing conflicts involving Moscow and Tehran. And whereas this administration once pledged to reduce the role of nuclear weapons in US policy, now it acknowledges that those weapons will loom larger in years to come.
