Douglas Kind- Since 1982, Mr. Kind has operated DEK Designs, a designer of telecommunications and computer equipment hardware and software.   Mr. Kind is designated as the inventor of a number of patents that have been filed in the telecommunications field.

 

In late 2005 a new technology fund called Freedom Technologies (VCC) was started. This fund began with investments of about $400,000; with current cumulative fundraising at approximately $1.2 million. These funds and continued funding are being used to work on the development of Freedom Walker, a paraplegic exo-skeleton walking suit.

 

Mr. Kind invented an artificial muscle concept that operates at low enough pressure to be worn by a paraplegic but produces enough torque to mobilize human legs and arms.  In addition to the Freedom Walker project Kind commenced work on artificial intelligence control capability, as well as the cognitive assistance software project described in this document. 

 

Dr. Hao Wang- PhD PEng- 2005 to 2010 - Worked for the Freedom Bionics group of Companies as a senior development specialist in artificial intelligence, and motion control which included artificial trajectory control of wearable robotics.  He started his career in China in the early 1990s’ working on projects at Siemens in Hong Kong, British Petroleum and Budweiser International.  He has project experience in robotics, artificial intelligence design and testing, and more recently User Intention detection systems for determining human motion requests without the need to press buttons. 

 

Brett Spratt - Attended SFU, graduating from the Cognitive Sciences program and working for a number of years in the machining industry. Mr. Spratt subsequently joined The Freedom Group in 2009 as a cognitive systems designer.  From that date he has been working on how to interface and create cognitive assistance software and device designs to benefit people with cognitive impairment.
